Outdoor track earns slew of first places in meet

The SRU track team received 10 first place finishes at the Early Bird Invitational at California University of Pennsylvania last weekend.

"I am really pleased with how everything went," coach John Papa said. "The weather held out and I am excited with the direction of the team. It was a good indicator that we are going to be one of the top two or three teams in our conference."

For the women's side of the meet, senior Andi Rose won the 100 and 400-meter hurdles. Rose finished with a time of 1:02.33 in the 400-meter hurdles and qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals.

Rose crossed the finish line first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.53.

Junior Sunny Daugherty garnered a first place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 10.2 inches, while sophomore Vera McDaniel won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.55.

Sophomore Lacey Cochran earned a first place finish with a time of 26.33 in the 200-meter dash. The 4x400 relay team finished first with a time of 3:57.63.

Junior Abby McKissich finished first in the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 6 inches to conclude the first place finishes for the SRU women.

On the men's side of the meet, freshman Nate Hardic gained a first place in the javelin to win his third straight javelin event in as many weeks to start off the outdoor track season.

He won with a distance of 180 feet, 6 inches.

Junior Nate Shadeck won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.08 while the 4x400 relay team earned a first place finish as well.

Also for the men, freshman Philip Rector finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.89 while sophomore Eric Dravenstott garnered a second place finish in the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 1 inch.

Sophomore Adam Jones finished second in the shot put with a distance of 48 feet, 6 inches.

Freshman Chris Warning took home second place honors in the discus throw with a distance of 146 feet, 3 inches.
