The men's and women's SRU outdoor track team finished third at the Seahawk Invitational during spring break.

The Rock also competed in the Coastal Carolina Invitational the week before, as SRU collected six first-place finishes at the meet, with the women recording four of them and the men the other two.

Coach John Papa was pleased with the performance of the team and said that the most important thing about these first couple of meets is to get experience and to get back into shape.

"We had a good performance," Papa said. "We were not in peak condition, but I thought that we did a good job."

For the women at the Seahawk Invitational, senior Andi Rose finished first in the 100-meter hurdlers with a time of 14.25. With that time, Rose was able to provisional qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships.

Rose also finished first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.78. Senior Melissa Sopher finished behind Rose in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.13.

The women's 4x400 relay team garnered a first-place finish with a time of 3:58.16. The last of the women's first places was freshman Jennifer Hansen with a height of 3.60 meters in the pole vaulting event. With that height, Hansen provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals.

The Rock men's track team also finished third at the Seahawk Invitational, and leading the Rock on the men's side was freshman Chris Geddis. Geddis finished first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:09.23, while fellow freshman Nate Hardic garnered a first-place finish in the javelin throw, with a distance of 53.49 meters.

The weekend prior to this event, the SRU track team competed at the Coastal Carolina Invitational, where the men's team finished fourth. Hardic garnered first place in the javelin, with a distance of 20 ft 8 in., which qualified him for the NCAA Division II Nationals.
