"It's a spring thing we are doing and every recipe is portioned and under 400 calories," said Pete Damico, general manager of Weisenfluh Dining Hall.
The university food service scheduled the promotion back in September.
"It is our first time doing it," said Amanda Gartner, operations manager for AVI Food Systems. "If students like it, we may bring it back."
The dinner consisted of a variety of different foods: lightly breaded chicken, broiled fish, pasta, vegetables, salad, baked chips, and even oatmeal cookies and banana and strawberry cheesecake. Each table offered nutrition facts on each item of food served.
Joel Galecki, a junior information systems major, said he thinks that the lower calorie, healthier meals are a good idea.
"It is a better alternative than what they are offering already," Galecki said. "It could also help me during Lent because my goal was to eat healthier."
Workers observed and asked students if they were enjoying health night, and the response was a positive one.
"It was good, especially considering it was healthy," said Ben Brilmyer, a senior physical education major. "It was a worthwhile tradeoff."
Along with the food tables, there were six different organizations available to answer questions on health and nutrition.
Representatives from the American Heart Association, SRU Health Center, Pepsi Co./ Frito Lay, the Aebersold Student Recreation Center, Intramural Sports and Outdoor Adventures were all in attendance.
