The Rock water polo team placed eighth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Water Polo Championship last weekend.
"We were certainly seeded where we should have been," coach Jim Yeamans said. "It was a valuable tournament and a great learning experience. We are working on our mistakes and making progress."
The three losses in the tournament put the Rock's record at 0-6 this season.
"The girls are playing hard," Yeamans said. "We have had six hard games. We will improve and turn some of these losses into wins."
On Sunday, the Rock fell to Harvard by a score of 11-5. SRU fell behind, 2-0, early in the match, but it fought back to tie the score, 2-2, at halftime. Harvard outscored the Rock by a 6-3 margin in the third period to take an 8-5 lead after three periods, and then scored three unchallenged goals in the final round of play.
"We struggled a bit, but we worked hard and made a comeback," Yeamans said. "We towed the line, and we also struggled a bit. We made a comeback, but the score got lopsided towards the end of the game. But I'm still proud of the girls."
Senior offensive setter Erika Brunner scored three goals for the Rock as she tallied a combined 20 goals total in all three games of the tournament. She also recorded one assist and one steal.
On Saturday afternoon, the Rock dropped a 14-5 decision against Marist.
"We didn't play as well in the game against Marist," Yeamans said.
During the opening round action of the tournament, the Rock was defeated by Princeton, the tournament's number one seeded team, 16-6.
"We played well and held with them," Yeamans said. "It is an honor to get to play in this tournament, because it mostly consists of Division-I schools."
The Rock will travel to Penn State Behrend on Saturday to take on the host team on Saturday and Ithaca College on Sunday.
"We are looking forward to it," Yeamans said. "They are teams we can beat, and we are looking forward to doing a good job."
The Rock will now take on Gannon University in the Wolverine Invitational on March 17 at the University of Michigan.
