The Rock women's swimming team placed 11th in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships this past weekend.
The 11th-place finish was one spot lower than its 2006 finish.
The 400-freestyle relay finished 11th on Sunday to highlight the Rock's effort on the final day of the four-day competition at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Coach Jim Yeamans said that he was pleased with the team's performance.
"I was pleased with all of the swimmers' performance, and we swam our best at times," Yeamans said. "We were not too far behind Millersville and Lock Haven. West Chester ended up winning the tournament."
The relay team of graduate student Mary Ann McCauley, sophomore Lauren Hervatin, freshman Raquel Woerner and sophomore Heather Walbright racked up a time of 3:45.71 in the 400 free relay.
Also on Sunday, senior Megan Jo Ramage placed 14th in the 1650 freestyle, with a final time of 18:40.05.
On Saturday, McCauley captured a fifth-place finish in the 100 butterfly event. "She is a great, quality swimmer," Yeamans said. "It has been a pleasure to have her compete for us."
On Friday, the Rock picked up two 10th-place finishes, one in the 200 freestyle and one in the 400 medley, which earned the team 14 points in each event.
The 200 freestyle quartet included McCauley, Woerner, Hervatin and Walbright as they racked up a time of 1:42.88, which was 0.33 seconds off its 11th-place "psych sheet," seed time.
In the final event on Friday, the Rock's 400 medley relay time consisted of junior Beth Choike, Ramage, McCauley and Walbright recorded a time of 4:11.98, which was 2.06 seconds faster than its 12th-place "psych sheet," seed time.
The Rock finished day two of the PSAC's in 12th place in the 12-team standing, with 28 points. West Chester was leading the PSAC's with 279 points.
On Thursday, Ramage placed 18th in the women's 1000-yard freestyle event in the first day of competition of the PSAC's.
Ramage's time of 11:09.19 was 3.81 seconds slower than her seed time of 11:05.38, which was the No. 17 time on the pre-meet "psych sheet."
"Everyone swam well," Yeamans said. "It has been a long season, and we trained all year long for the PSAC's."
When it comes to the Rock's performance for the whole year, Yeamans said that they are always trying to enhance their performance.
"We are always looking to do better and improve," Yeamans said. "With everything we have been through, I am very proud of our girls."
