Baseball garners national ranking
The Rock baseball team cracked the top 30 in the American Baseball Coaches Association national poll this week. SRU is tied for the No. 30 spot in the poll after completing a four-game sweep over Tiffin last weekend. SRU is ranked fifth in the initial National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II North Atlantic Regional poll of the season released Monday afternoon.
Softball starts 2006-07 campaign
The Rock opened the 06-07 season with four wins in its first four games of the season against Johnson C. Smith University and Shaw University this weekend. The Rock won the four games 13-0, 6-1, 12-2 and 10-0. Senior pitcher Courtney Conron and sophomore Liz Pittman each pitched no-hitters.
Football announces alumni event
Rock football alumni and friends are invited to attend a social gathering to be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Alexion's Grill, 141 Hawthorne Street in Carnegie. Alexion's Grill is located less than a mile from the Radisson Hotel in Greentree, which will be the site of the Pittsburgh Nike Coach of the Year Clinic from March 2-4. Everyone involved in the alumni gathering must attend the clinic. The gathering is being hosted by Tom Yaksick, the owner of Alexion's Grill and a member of the Rock's 1972, 1973 and 1974 state championship teams.
