According to the Dean's List, 1,993 students, about 24.6 percent of the entire student body at Slippery Rock University, had exceptional grades for the Fall 2005 semester.
To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must be full-time undergraduates and earned a QPA of 3.5 or higher in a semester. There are 6,770 full-time undergraduate students that were eligible as of last semester.
"I like to see that there are a group of students achieving this," said William Williams, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. "It's very important to recognize students who have outstanding academic achievement."
According to a document provided by Institutional Research, Carbon, Forest, Huntingdon, Lancaster and Centre counties in Pennsylvania have the largest percentage of SRU students on the Dean's List, in relation to the total number of students enrolled at SRU from the respective counties.
The students on the Dean's List from these counties only make up about 1.5 percent of the total students on the list.
There are some counties, such as Carbon, that only have one student, skewing the percentages of students.
The five Pennsylvania counties with the highest overall undergraduate student population are Allegheny with 1,397 students; Butler, 977; Lawrence, 560; Mercer, 501; and Beaver, 392.
Of these counties, 26.1 percent of all students from Allegheny are on the Dean's List; Butler, 34.1 percent; Lawrence, 28.8 percent; Mercer, 26.3 percent; Beaver, 32.9 percent, totaling to 1,120 students on the Dean's List from those five counties.
Cameron, Delaware, Pike and Sullivan counties have no SRU students on the Dean's List.
The county with the lowest percentage of students on the list is Philadelphia; only two of the 29 students (6.8 percent) from that county are on the list.
There were 76 foreign students at SRU in the fall 2005 semester. About 35 percent of these students are on the Dean's List compared to only about 27 percent of the 395 out-of-state students enrolled.
