To the Editor:

I am writing this letter in regards to your "Fashion" section of the newspaper and the complete lack of morals and ethics that the author of this section has. I am absolutely baffled as to how there even needs to be a fashion section in a college paper, let alone how you can consider yourselves a professional publication when you let someone like this write for you.
The only reason that I read this section of the paper is because the paper is so small and I thought it would be interesting to see what a new staff member had to say. I was appalled, to say the least, when we were initially introduced in her first column. The girl had the gall to introduce herself by name dropping every single article of clothing she was wearing, the most disgusting of which naming the type of UNDERWEAR she was wearing. Sure, we're in college, but what kind of person introduces themselves by their type of underwear? Besides that, we are supposed to be going to school and be considered young professionals, not eye candy for the invisible magazines you think you're modeling for. The girl needs to get out in the real world and realize that none of this really matters unless you want to look like every other party girl on campus, which must apparently be the goal. Screw individuality when you can have someone tell you exactly what to buy and when to wear it!
The most disgusting aspect of this was revealed in last week's article when we actually got to see the depth of the girl's shallowness. In a school dedicated to environmental preservation and protection, this girl had the absolute nerve to say that using hair spray "severely damages your hair and the environment in more ways than one, but it's so hot right now." Are you kidding me? Do you have so little respect for the future generations, and your OWN children that you would sacrifice it all because it looks "hot??" How can someone be this completely devoid of honor, all in the name of fashion?
Your staff should seriously consider the removal of this staff member simply for encouraging environmental depletion for the sake of fashion--at an environmentally-dedicated school! If not, maybe someone should educate this poor girl or give her some morals and values. The poor girl is stuck in a high school mentality and cannot think beyond her immediate surroundings, which are, no doubt, a mall of some sort. She obviously cannot make important environmental or social decisions on her own, so why would you let her tell you how to dress?
