The Student Government Association addressed how they might honor Slippery Rock University students who have died Thursday.

Vice President of Administrative Affairs Jenny Craig said the SGA needs to do more to recognize these students.

"I really feel strongly about it," Craig said. "They had friends; they left some sort of imprint on people on campus."

Craig asked interested senators to help put together a memorial for these students.

Lauren Beck of the Association of Residence Hall Students said there is already a $200 memorial fund for Laura Moore, the SRU student who died this week. Anyone interested in contributing to the memorial should contact ARHS.

Jewelle Motley of the Black Action Society said the organization is donating a flower arrangement for Moore's funeral.

"There are no words to say to friends or family to make this better," Vice President of Student Life Robert Watson said, "but we must try.

"This is a most tragic situation. There's a real difficulty in finding any good in something like this."

Watson said he appreciates the leadership Craig, ARHS and the Black Action Society have taken in regards to the situation.

In SGA news, Vice President of Financial Affairs Preston Gibbs said the Board of Directors of Cooperative Activities is working on the SGA budget for next year regarding new organizations and their funding.

President Julie Hepner said she is meeting with President Smith today to discuss the beautification process of the Kiester entrance to campus.

Vice President of Advancement Amie Homa said Residence Life is letting students choose what furniture they would like to have in the new residence halls for next year.

In other news, the Food Committee is looking into having Weisenfluh Dining Hall open early for students with classes at 8 a.m.

The Beautification Committee is looking into replacing the broken big screen television in Rocky's Grille.

Senator Mark Kratz said it is not a good thing for prospective students to see a broken television that is not being replaced.

In other SGA news, Vice President of Student Life Richard Graham said SGA will begin to advertise through a public relations campaign to raise awareness about what the SGA does for the student body.

The next SGA meeting will be Feb. 23 during common hour at 12:35 p.m. in room 207 of the University Union.
