Constance Foley, assistant vice president for student affairs at Florida Atlantic University-Boca Raton, speaks to students, faculty and administration during her interview for vice president of student life Wednesday.

The Slippery Rock University campus and community were invited to attend open sessions with the candidates for the position of Vice President of Student Life this week.

Candidates involved with the open sessions included F. James Dragna, associate vice chancellor for student development at the University of North Carolina- Wilmington; James Michael Rollo, associate vice president for student affairs at the University of Florida-Gainesville; and Constance Foley, assistant vice president for student affairs at Florida Atlantic University-Boca Raton.

Each candidate discussed their background and job experience along with their vision for developing the division of student life at SRU.

"I think that the division of student life should create experiences and opportunities which help students with their development for later success," Foley said.

The sessions gave those interested an opportunity to ask questions and get involved with the interview process. Everyone in attendance was encouraged to fill out a feedback form on the strengths and potential weaknesses of each candidate.

"It is important for students to get involved with the selection process, because the vice president of student life works with students and interacts with them the most," said Emily Watson, a junior elementary education major.

Those who attended the sessions consisted largely of student leaders, many of which displayed a strong interest in areas dealing with athletics, student organizations and intercultural programs. The open sessions were held in North Hall and lasted about an hour.

The application process for the position requires a letter detailing qualifications, an updated resume or vitae, official transcripts and five professional references. Candidate vitae are available to the public and can be found on SRU's Web site.
