Is this my 20 seconds of fame, or is this something way bigger than both you and I? Now let me tell you something about my family.
Pardon me for being a month late, but don't you love Christmas? I do. There is something extremely powerful about seeing the powder snow fall down like a spring night's rain underneath the glowing streetlights of a small town. It gives you a certain feeling in your belly.
Also, contrary to your own naive belief, I absolutely love to give presents. Maybe the only thing more heartwarming than the priceless scenery is the feeling of surprising someone that you may care about a great deal with a present that they know only you could have given them. It feels good, doesn't it?
Now, with that said, let me tell you about Christmas with my family. Before I get knee deep in this, I would like to forward a disclaimer about my family. I do love them. I mean, don't you have to? There could never be anything that could live up to hearing my grandfather's sometimes-indecipherable German accent telling old war stories over a couple (12) shots of his favorite liquor, or having my uncle berate me over my favorite football team. Though these days, I must say, it has been a bit toned down. He's a Dolphins fan.
You see, just as it goes with 99 percent of the families that exist, some of my family doesn't get along, which is fine because, unless you are warped directly from the most recent Disney movie, this tends to happen. These are the only people that you are guaranteed to know from the minute you pop out of a woman, until the minute they decide to put you in the ground, so, with that said, disagreements and grudges are all but impossible to avoid.
So all in all, please know that my family, for the most part, is a collection of great people. I have nothing but the utmost amount of love and respect for most of each and every one of them. Things just get a little crazy sometimes. Or, when it comes to these days, maybe all the time. And, come to think of it, maybe more than a little crazy.
