The year 2005 is gone, so now we look forward to the films that will rock 2006. If you were creeped out by The Sixth Sense, made paranoid by Signs, or frightened beyond recognition by The Village, then M. Night Shyamalan's new project, Lady in the Water, might be something to look forward to this year. Paul Giamatti (Sideways) plays the sulking super of an apartment complex who comes to discover a mythical creature living in the complex's pool. Shyamalan adapted this film from a story he created for his children, but don't fret, M. Night always manages to captivate his audiences with surprising and suspenseful moments. Lady in the Water is scheduled to be released July 21.
Staying in the water, it's time to re-board the Black Pearl in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The always interesting Johnny Depp returns, reviving his Oscar nominated role as Captain Jack Sparrow, and Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly also summon their inner-pirates once more. The Black Pearl was a fun-filled film packed with action, romance, and stunning visual effects. You can expect more of the same from Dean Man's Chest. Depp and Knightly have put together solid resumes since the Black Pearl, so let's just hope that Bloom can bounce back from the deplorable mess that was Elizabethtown. Look for Dead Man's Chest to open on July 7.
Speaking about high-powered sequels, super fans everywhere are anxiously awaiting the May 26 release of the third installment in the X-Men series. X-Men 3 will feature a returning cast from X-Men 2 with a few exciting additions. Playing the brooding yet intelligent Beast will be Frasier's Kelsey Grammer. Beast is an important addition to the cast because X-3 is said to take a more in-depth look into the lives of mutants who were once human and the hardships they endure. Vinnie Jones (Euro Trip) brings another new face to cast playing the goliath Juggernaut. Will Jean Grey make the transformation into the much anticipated Phoenix? You'll have to wait to find out.
