Holidays not the right time for arguing over petty issues

I don't have any particular issues this week. It's amazing. I mean sure, there's hundreds of things to talk about; the sad state of modern music, the Saddam Hussein trial or lack there of at this point. I guess, finals week and my ability to rub it in that I really don't have any, the predictable sadness in the entertainment world from the divorce of… Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen? Perhaps they should have had their own MTV reality show. What isn't that company willing to put on their schedule?

And of course, Christmas. I don't really want to go there because I'm sure everyone else is going to write about it. Blah blah blah, I don't really care what it's supposed to mean, nor do you care what it means to me. Let's just say its blind capitalism at its finest. Ponder this though; what's the worst gift you've ever gotten? Thanks to a member of Slab, whom I'm forgetting at the moment for that one. Talk amongst yourselves while I change the subject.

I guess if my random introduction is leading me anywhere, it would be to ask the question: why does any of this matter? What makes us care about these issues? I mean when it comes down to it, when anyone is asked what's important to them this time of year, you hear the clichéd, "friends and family," response. I have nothing against it. I just find it pitifully funny when people say it.

So many negative things are happening which contradict that statement. Fights are breaking out in retail stores. If that's not dismal I don't know what is, although I personally would have fun if someone decided to hassle me in such a way. But I'm admittedly cold-hearted and looking for a clash. Call it a Fight Club fetish.

Crime continues: mugging, fraud, theft, the outrageous prices of each and every idea you had for the twenty people you have to buy for. And who hasn't had a relationship problem or two with a significant other, family member, friend, etc. this time of year? Yet we put on best face (mine is almost completely hidden in hair; anonymity almost complete) and say we care about those closest to us. And to show that care, we buy them crap.
