We end the year with more news on the rock show that we announced last week. For those of you who didn't hear by now, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will be making their way into Slippery Rock on Saturday, Feb. 11. The show will be held in the MPR of the Union and is sponsored by the lovely people at WRSK.
It is with a great deal of pleasure that I announce the opening acts for this extravaganza. The Morning After Girls and Elefant will be the two acts warming up the crowd before B.R.M.C. hit the stage. Tickets are currently available at the Union information desk, or by calling 724-738-2104. As stated last week, they will be $5 for students and $15 for non-students. The doors will open at 8 p.m. and the show will begin at 9 p.m., and no, there are no excuses. You better be there.
Moving on to the national news of the week. It is that time of year again. Nominees for the 48th annual Grammy award ceremonies were announced this week. Leading the way is Mariah Carey, Kanye West, and surprisingly enough, John Legend with eight nominations apiece. With that said, it can be officially said that Ms. Carey is back.
Word has it that Kanye West is already making headlines by claiming that if he doesn't win album of the year, he is going to have a problem. Tune in to see yourself when one of the three best nights of the year in the world of music, Grammy night, will be broadcasted live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 8. It promises to be entertaining if nothing else.
Moving on, it is now official. The legendary New York City punk rock club CBGB's will be closing for good on Halloween of next year. According to reports, Hilly Kristal, owner of the legendary club, said that he plans to possibly move the club to a commercial spot in Manhattan, or even somewhere on the West Coast.
The legendary club, which has been up and running for nearly three decades, has hosted some of the most legendary acts and concerts the world of music has ever seen. Though it may continue elsewhere, there is no doubt that it would be nearly impossible to create the atmosphere it has had the privilege of creating for many music fans for the past 30 years.
Finally, Eminem is back with his ex-wife Kim after years of separation. According to MTV, Mr. Mathers himself called into a Detroit radio show this past Tuesday to announce that the two may even get re-married sometime in the future. During the same interview, the rapper also spoke of his recent stint in rehab and claimed that he will indeed stay clean for good now. Only time can tell whether or not the cleanliness, or the reconciliation, will last.
Until next year, keep listening….
