The win was Glenville State's first of the season after losing four straight games.
"Even though Glenville State was 0-4 on the season, we knew they were going to be a tough team to beat," Rock coach John Marhefka said. "We knew we had to control the tempo of the game and play a complete 40 minutes of basketball to win."
The only bright spot for the Rock was the play of sophomore guard Jamar Scales. Coming off the bench, Scales scored a team-high 17 points, and shot 4-for-8 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Glenville State held a big lead most of the game. The Rock led only twice in the game, by scores of 15-14 and 17-16 midway through the first half.
The Rock trailed by 11 points, 37-26, at halftime. After scoring six consecutive points to begin the second half, the Rock couldn't manage to keep up with Glenville State.
Both the Rock's offense and defense struggled, as neither played consistently for any part of the game.
The Rock shot 34 percent from the floor, and only made one three-point basket in the game, shooting 9 percent from beyond the arc. The Rock was solid from the free throw line, shooting 83 percent and missing only four free throws for the game.
Glenville State used its athleticism to out-rebound SRU by a 45-25 margin. Glenville State shot 53 percent from the field, 44 percent from three-point range and 86 percent from the free throw line.
The other notable scorer for the Rock was sophomore guard Brandon Thompson. Thompson's jumper worked throughout the game as he scored 12 points in the loss. Thompson shot 5-for-7 from the floor and grabbed three offensive rebounds in the game.
The Rock then faced off with NCAA Division I opponent Youngstown State on Nov. 23, losing the game 95-53 in its first road test of the season.
