Water polo places sixth in Eastern championships

The Slippery Rock University water polo team, the No. 20 ranked Division II team in the nation, dropped a double overtime, 9-8 decision to Brown University Sunday in the fifth-place game of the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Eastern Championships at Harvard.
The loss gave the Rock a final record of 24-7 for the 2005 season.
The Rock was also ranked sixth in the CWPA regional poll.
Sophomore Oliver Horrigan scored three goals and picked up one assist in the loss. He also caused one steal and three kickouts to help lead The Rock effort.
Senior offensive setter Arseni Grokhovski scored three goals and earned one assist, while junior left wing Aaron Chapple, sophomore driver Eric Olson, and freshman Andy Stiebler each scored one goal in the game.
Junior driver Ryan Holt recorded two steal and earned one assist, while junior driver Andy Morrison had an assist and also had one caused kickout.
Junior goalie Glenn Reepmeyer recorded 18 saves and three steals.
"It was the best game of the weekend," coach Jim Yeamans said. "We had a chance to win it, but we didn't capitalize our effort."
On Saturday, the Rock defeated Harvard University in double overtime by a score of 10-9.
Grokhovski, Olson, and sophomore offensive setter Zachary Wolary each scored two goals as the Rock ended a three game losing streak.
In addition to their goals, Grokhovski had five caused kickouts and Olson picked up three steals in the game.
Junior driver Ryan Holt earned one goal, picked up two assists, and earned two steals, while freshman Sean Casella picked up two steals, and junior driver Andy Morrison earned one steal. Reepmeyer recorded 10 saves and two steals.
"It was a gutsy performance," Yeamans said. "They got up on us, but we came back, and we found the energy to win it."
On Friday, the Rock lost to St. Francis College in the opening round of the
CWPA Eastern Championships by a score of 15-7.
Horrigan and Stiebler each scored two goals. Junior left wing Aaron Chapple scored a goal, earned two assists, and picked up one steal. Wolary scored one goal and caused one kickout.
"They were a quality opponent and the real deal," Yeamans said.
St. Francis College, the eventual winner of the tournament, now proceeds to the Division I National tournament.
"This was one of the best seasons and I'm very proud of them (the players)," Yeamans said.
