The University Union Task Force encouraged Student Government Association (SGA) senators to spread the word about the vote for the union scheduled in December.
Students will vote on whether to renovate and expand the current union or build a new one.
"We need to know that students want this," SGA President Julie Hepner said. "This is a time when every student's voice will count. This is definitely a legacy we want to leave, a union that students want to come to."
Hepner said they were not given an exact price range, but both options will cost about the same.
"We need individuals who are willing to give us a few hours of work," said Robert Watson, vice president of student life.
"It will be making a difference, absolutely," Watson said.
The last three meetings for the University Union Task Force will be Nov. 22 and 29, and Dec. 4 at 4:30 p.m.
For more information, the Student Union Referendum link at www.sru.edu shows visuals of what both options would look like when the construction is completed.
The Student Government Association met with other student governments across the state at the Board of Student Government Presidents meeting in Harrisburg.
"I would say we're well above and beyond," Hepner said. "We actually got along best with IUP, even though they're our rivals."
The other governments are mostly about community service and don't really deal with policies, Hepner said.
"I was floored by how advanced we are," Jenny Craig, vice president of administrative affairs, said.
The SGA is still looking to fill the Founders and Kraus Hall senator positions. There are also two co-op positions vacant.
These co-op positions would require students to make decisions about the financial budget for SGA.
