To the Editor:

I have a good feeling that this subject has been covered by the Rocket before. The parking on this campus is horrendous. I live outside of New Castle. The drive takes between 50 minutes and an hour, yet there are days when I leave an hour early and still manage to be late to class. Other than Friday, which like most colleges, students take the day off or don't schedule classes, I find myself driving around for at least ten minutes looking for somewhere near campus to park. Today, I found myself full of rage about the whole situation. I had a 9 a.m. class. Admittedly, I left my house at a quarter after 8. But, I sped the whole way here and managed to make it at 9 a.m. to the parking lot. The one located to the right of the science building that is under construction. There were no spaces in that lot. There were no spaces in the lots behind the Union building. There were no spaces in that tiny lot by the field house. I did eventually manage to park just shy of the right field fence near the baseball field. I'm so glad I bought a parking pass so that I could walk over a half a mile to get near the academic buildings. This is beyond ridiculous. One, you've got staff lots behind many buildings that have vacancies everywhere. Two, it is impossible to predict how close or far you will find a spot, no matter what time of day it is. I could have parked my car at a BP in downtown Slippery Rock and walked nearly the same distance.

I would gladly pay 5 more dollars to be able to park within reason. I refuse to believe that I should have to leave almost 2 hours before my class just to find a spot close enough to not walk into class 15 minutes late huffing and puffing as if I had just run the 100-meter dash. I honestly don't believe that freshman who live on campus should be allowed to have a car. But if they do and are, they should be forced to keep their cars at the lot by the baseball field. It is no big deal to have to walk that distance if you live here and can go when you feel like it. I can't fathom that there are enough spaces to accommodate the amount of commuters that attend this university. A campus with one main entrance, on one side of the university, and administrators with no clue how frustrating and stressful this issue is.
