Water polo places fourth at Southern tournament

Despite a four goal performance by sophomore Oliver Horrigan, the Slippery Rock University men's water polo team fell to Bucknell University Sunday.
The Rock lost, 8-7 and finished in fourth place at the CWPA Southern Division tournament at the U.S. Naval Academy. The loss was the Rock's second straight following after a 17-game win streak. The Rock's record dropped to 22-5 for the season. Bucknell was ranked 18th in the nation and fifth in the region in last week's Collegiate Water Polo Association polls.
The fourth place finish earned the Rock a spot in the eight-team CWPA Eastern Championships, which will be held November 12-13 at Harvard University.
Junior left wing Aaron Chapple scored one goal and earned a steal, while senior offensive setter Arseni Grokhovski scored one goal and picked up two assists. Sophomore driver Eric Olson scored one goal and earned two steals.
On Saturday, the Rock lost to Princeton by a score of 10-4. Chapple and
Horrigan each scored two goals in the victory. Glenn Reepmeyer recorded ten saves during the game. Reepmeyer earned three steals as well.
"Princeton had two easy rounds and they are a very big team," Yeamans said. "We needed a break after Saturday morning."
The Rock also faced George Washington on Saturday. SRU won by a score of 5-4. George Washington was ranked ninth in last week's regional poll.
Horrigan scored two goals, earned one steal, and forced one kick out to lead the Rock's offensive attack. Reepmeyer recorded 17 saves in the match.
"As the game went on, it became tougher, and we became drained," Yeamans said.
On Friday, the Rock defeated John Hopkins by a score of 10-7. Grokhovski and Holt each added two goals for SRU. Chapple scored three goals and earned one steal.
Casella scored one goal and earned two steals. Horrigan scored one goal and picked up two assists and two steals during the game.
"Johns Hopkins was a very good team," Yeamans said.
The Rock will now compete in the Eastern Championships, which will take place at Harvard on November 12th and 13th.
The Rock is expected to take on Saint Francis College of New York in the opening game of the tournament November 11th.
"Saint Francis is the best team on the east coast," Yeamans said.
Saint Francis captured the ECAC title and was ranked 12th in the nation and first in the region in last week's CWPA polls.
