The Slippery Rock University Cross Country team hosted the PSAC Championships at Cooper's Lake course last Saturday.

The men's team placed fourth behind Lock Haven, Edinboro and Shippensburg.

Jeff Weiss led the team to a top five overall finish. Weiss, the freshman phenomenon, placed first in the county meet with a time of 24:54.

"I knew that Jeff would be among the top runners in the conference, but he really proved to everyone that he is the best," coach John Papa said.

Matt Bluman placed second for the men's team with his ninth overall finishing time of 25:45. Junior Chris Geddis was 18th with a time of 26:16, and senior Greg Byrnes, 38th, had a time of 27:02.

Weiss and Matt Bluman won all-conference honors at the meet.

The Rock women placed eighth overall.

"Both teams improved tremendously from the previous two times they raced on the course, Papa said. "I am very proud of the way they finished."

Sophomore Katie Bork once again was the top runner for the Rock women. She placed 10th overall with a time of 22:58.

"She has significantly improved over last year and I am very pleased with her results," Papa said.

Junior Holly Whoolery, who has been out all season with an injury, came in second for the women with a 19th place finish.

"The women did just as well as I expected and I am pleased with the results," Papa said.

The top 15 runners at the meet are named all-conference for each gender.

This Saturday the team will send its top seven runners to participate in the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship held at Lock Haven University.
