The University Union Task Force has been working each week to gather and finalize students' suggestions for the new union.
"We are having a vote for all students, we're looking at the first week of December," Slippery Rock University Student Government Association President Julie Hepner said.
They have compared the costs of renovating and building a new union, and the cost is the same for each, Hepner said.
Hepner said SRU's union fee is only $50 compared to other state system schools with $250 fees.
"We are so low," Hepner said. "There has to be an increase no matter what."
She said the current union building is old and needs improvements.
If a new union is built, it will be located where Bard Hall and Boozel Dining Hall sit, Hepner said
"With the new building, we can do a lot with it," Hepner said.
The architects have provided drawings of what the renovated and new building will look like.
At an informal senate meeting on Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, the architects of the union will be making a presentation of the proposed construction project.
"It's really exciting to see all the plans that they have," Hepner said.
In other SGA news, the fall break status was updated.
"There has been a memo drafted by the provost carrying my support to the president," Robert Watson, vice president of student life, said.
When the president returns from his trip to India, he will address the request, Watson said.
In campus safety news, Senator Ashley Clark said people are concerned about the lights between Aebersold Recreational Center and Kiester Road turning off when people walk under them.
Watson said the lights are designed to turn off when they reach a certain temperature so they can cool down.
"I would encourage this group to consider working with the safety officer," Watson said.
In other Student Government Association news, Hepner announced The Golden Ticket Platform has already accomplished some of their goals this semester.
They have extended the bookstore hours, ensured better academic advisement, rerouted the Happy Bus loop, organized open forums to focus on student issues, organized SGA Happy Hour and reviewed parking allocations and ticket distribution.
The Food Committee is still waiting for the results of the palm pilot questionnaire.
The senate is looking for Founders and Kraus Hall senators.
The Council of Trustees will go the Pennsylvania Association Council of Trustees (PACT) meeting next week in Millersville, Pa., Student Trustee reporter Angele Waugaman said.
The next senate meeting will be held on Nov. 15 at 12:35 p.m. in room 207 of the University Union.
