Winter wear becomes warmest ever

Though this crazy season has put us through a whirlwind of warm and cool temperatures, the first flakes are getting ready to fall, and bitter temperatures will be here before we know it. From cuffs, to flip mitts to pom-poms, this year's winter wear is comfier, cozier and warmer than ever.

Arm cuffs are this season's must-have cozy comfort. Available in a variety of colors, shapes and patterns, cuffs are the newest way to keep those pretty forearms nice and toasty. If you're looking, American Eagle offers a few fun pairs in a variety of colors and styles. So if you can't resist wearing a short-sleeved top on a chilly day, slip on a pair of cuffs to keep those arms warm year-round. Cuffs are also great for just adding an extra layer to keep your arms extra warm on frigid days, or whenever you get the urge to make a snow angel.

Flip mitts have been around for a long time, but are extremely popular among retailers this winter. Not only are these mitts stylish, they are extremely practical as well. I haven't owned a pair since I was a kid, but it will be hard to avoid purchasing a pair of the creative mitts when I start to shop for a new pair of gloves.

Other than that, gloves haven't changed much. Cashmere, boucle and leather all top the list of popular fabrics for this year's hottest gloves.

And let us not forget our most typical items for keeping warm in those frigid temperatures: Hats and scarves have been around for decades, but surprisingly, are reinvented each winter. Pom-poms have reemerged with a vengeance this year atop all different kinds of hats and dangling from scarves. Though this has never been one of my favorite features on winter accessories, it's hard to go to any store and not see hats and scarves that are covered with them.

Hats are pretty much the same old thing this season. I mean, how much can you even change the appearance of a hat anyways, right? Beanies, cable hats, fedoras, it's all very good. But scarves took a bit of a turn this year. Last year, the hot thing was annoyingly long scarves. These, though nice looking, were highly impractical. You were practically tripping on them as you were walking down the street, and it was hard to keep them from getting dirty.
