Host River Huston, who travels to all sorts of schools giving presentations, spoke to students about the importance of protection and making decisions when drinking. Being HIV-positive, Huston knows full well the dangers that are out there.
But instead of preaching, Huston opted to have fun with the idea of sex. A wide variety of topics were discussed, the most important being communication. Huston said strong communication plays a critical role in relationships and is the only way to stay happy.
She also brought random members of the audience up front to join in on the festivities. Girls were asked to demonstrate a scenario as if they were intoxicated. They were spun around, and had to place a condom on a prosthetic penis. Condoms seemed to be the running gag of the night, but were stressed to be extremely important.
Megan Phillips, an SRU student, especially enjoyed this portion of the lecture.
"It was very comical," Phillips said. "She was a very animated and entertaining person," she said. "She also mentioned that some people who are not properly informed by their parents tend to think sex is going to be a lot like the movies, when it's really not."
Huston also spoke of pornography, and how it is just as unrealistic.
"Guys should wean themselves away from pornography, because most women are really not like that in real life," Huston said.
Sophomore Elementary Education major Alex Johnson said the presentation was both comedic and informative.
"I liked how she put a comical twist on things," Johnson said. "She had these girls put condoms on sex toys and it was hilarious."
Naturally, the program ended with everyone in the audience receiving free condoms.
