Beliefs a vital right in society
Issue date: 10/14/05 Section: Rocket Letters
To the Editor:
I was reading the letters last week and had to laugh. One individual came out and said that "Religion nothing but a story". So, I just need to ask a question: Are all religions just a story or just some of them? What would happen if I said to a Catholic that the Virgin Mary being a virgin when Jesus was born was just a lie? I would probably be called a heathen. Also, on the subject of religion needing to be private, my question is: Why? When people talk about faith and religion, it is not always trying to "push" that individual's religion on anyone. Not everyone is trying to get you to "jump on the bandwagon" of their religion. Besides, religious freedom has been something that we have had in the U.S. since back before we formally became the United States of America. The way I see it is, if you don't like my religion than you don't have to believe. I will, however, tell you what I believe in and hope that you will believe too. But, I wouldn't force you. Who am I to make you believe what I believe? I just wish to inform people about the way I live my life for Jesus and believe he will forgive me from my sins. Of course, I am not an expert, just a person who believes in his religion no matter what. I mean maybe I will die and there will be nothing but darkness but I am willing to take that chance.
