SRU APSCUF not condoning cheating
Issue date: 10/7/05 Section: Rocket Letters
To the Editor:
An article abut academic dishonesty by Randy Klins and David Duke appeared in the Sept. 23 edition of The Rocket that quoted several Slippery Rock University faculty members. SRU APSCUF, the faculty union, wishes to go on record that faculty regard cheating and other academic dishonesty as a serious issue that we do not condone. Part of our contractual responsibilities as faculty includes evaluation of students. To evaluate in a meaningful way requires that we do our best to construct a classroom environment in which we can assess what students have genuinely learned and penalize those whom we discover have attempted to misrepresent what they have learned through cheating or plagiarism.
