The Rock is 14-5 overall and 2-2 in the very competitive PSAC West this season. With the 2-2 record in the PSAC West, the Rock is tied with Indiana of Pennsylvania for third place in the division.
The first game of the PSAC Crossover Tournament was against winless Cheyney last Friday. The Rock dominated all three matches by the scores of 30-10, 30-3 and 30-3 for the win.
The next day, the Rock beat Kutztown, then 9-3, by scores of 30-19, 30-27, 27-30, and 30-28 in four matches. Later that day, the Rock took another PSAC East power down as they swept Millersville 3-0.
"We were happy with what we did on the weekend," Coach Laurie Lokash said. "It was a nice feeling to have played solid matches against PSAC Eastern teams."
Freshmen Anastasia Urbanik continue her strong play in her first season as she recorded team-highs with 42 kills and 13 service aces in the three games. Urbanik also had 15 digs and eight blocks in crossover action.
Sophomore Louise Schultz led the Rock in blocks with 10 and had 33 kills while junior Gwen Oberlin had a team-high 47 digs on the weekend. Fellow junior Sarah Kirsch had 12 kills, 29 digs and 99 assists in the winning effort on the weekend.
On Tuesday, the Rock returned to PSAC West action and suffered a hard defeat at home against Lock Haven. Lock Haven is now 11-4 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC West. The scores of the matches were 30-20, 30-24 and 30-20 in the Lock Haven win.
"The statistics were not indicative of what the actual score was because we dug the ball very well and had a lot of good swings," Lokash said. "Lock Haven was more experience and made less mistakes in the game."
Urbanik had another well-rounded game with nine kills, four digs and one assisted block. Kirsch added 30 assists and 18 digs while Oberlin chipped in with 17 digs.
This weekend the Rock will be competing in the Clarion Tournament against four regional and non-PSAC opponents. Today the Rock will play Virginia Union and Geneva, and on Saturday the Rock will be against Anderson and Lees-McRae.
"We must have a strong performance this weekend because it's our only opportunity to play regional opponents," Lokash said. "We must chip in on our chances to win as many as we can."
After the Clarion Tournament, the Rock will continue their PSAC West schedule and travel to California University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
