Artistic works with vivacious colors, vibrant patterns, and intricate movement are now on display throughout the rest of the semester at the University Union, Martha Gault Gallery and Gallery 164 as the SRU Art Department seniors commemorate four years of hard work and dedication.

The annual senior art show began on Sunday and will run through May 6. Each senior will get the opportunity to display their best works at some point in the next few weeks with an opening reception on Monday or Thursday night.

Katherine Mickel of the art department is responsible for putting the show together and said the department continues to be amazed by the progress of their seniors.

"The art department continues to be proud of our students," Mickel said. "(The show) is a good opportunity to see what the department does and what the students are doing."

This week, the galleries displayed the works of six seniors: Matt Forrest, Ryan Waltman, Michael McGuire, Lori Sykes, Erica Sera, and Meredith Roth.

Along with several examples of their works, the artists attached an artist statement that talks about their inspirations, dreams, and influences. While some discussed the influential work of famous artists like Claude Monet or Jackson Pollack, others, like Forrest, spoke about a religious influence.

"As a printmaker, I have been faced with many different challenges to represent an image that can truly reflect my ideas," Forrest wrote. "No matter what belief a person has, I feel that they can identify with something in my work."

Forrest had some of his works such as "Let My People Go," and "The Offering," displayed at Martha Gault Art Gallery that will continue to be displayed throughout the day today.

Acrylic painter, Meredith Roth, displayed many of her unique, vivid paintings like, "From Soup to Nuts," and "Some Letters, Different Words," and said in her artist statement that she has grown a lot throughout her four years with the SRU art department.

"In my concluding years at Slippery Rock, I am still filled with ideas that are waiting to be explored, altered, reworked and explored again. My professors at SRU helped to broaden my view of the world and art in general," Roth wrote. "They encouraged my views of abstract ideas and informal intelligence. For this I will always be grateful."
