The Slippery Rock women's tennis team won two of its three matches this past week, improving its overall record to 6-10 for the season.

The team put up wins against Shippensburg 5-4 and Clarion 5-4. Its only loss of last weekend was to West Liberty State 5-4 on Saturday. "The women have played good doubles, they have really picked it up at the end," Meredith said.

Against Shippensburg, the Rock won two of three doubles matches. Ashley Michaux and Kate Ingram won the No. 1 doubles 8-4. Ashley Greene and Erika McKenna won the No. 2 doubles match 8-6.

In singles matches, the Rock won three of the six matches en route to victory. Michaux won her No.1 singles match 6-3, 5-7, 7-5. Greene won her No.2 singles match 6-1, 6-2. McKenna won the No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-0.

In the Clarion match, the Rock won two of the three doubles matches. Michaux and Ingram won the No.1 doubles 8-3. Green and McKenna won the No.2 doubles match 8-3.

In singles play, the Rock swept the first three matches on the way to the win. Michaux won her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-1. Greene won her No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1. Ingram won her No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-3.

The only loss came from West Liberty State by a score of 5-4. In doubles, the Rock came away with victories in two of the three matches. Michaux and Ingram won the No.1 doubles match 8-2. Greene and McKenna won the No.2 doubles match 8-3.

In the singles matches Michaux won her No. 1 singles match 5-7, 6-0, and 6-0. The other Rock singles win came from Heather Webb who won the No.5 singles match 6-3, 1-6, and 7-5. "They have improved, they are more completive," Meredith said.

On the men's side, two games took place last weekend. The first was a make-up game against Bloomsburg on Sunday. The second game was against West Liberty State Monday. The Rock lost both games. "A loss is only a bad thing if you do not learn a lesson from it," coach Matt Meredith said.

The Rock lost to Bloomsburg by a score of 9-0. "Bloomsburg is a national ranked team and second in the conference," Meredith said. "We played well against them even though the score was 9-0."

The Rock lost to West Liberty State 6-3. "We improved in the West Liberty game," Meredith said. "We should have played doubles better and the score would have been better."

Adam Shosky and R.J. Vighetti won the No.2 doubles match 9-8 to give the Rock their first points of the match.

In singles action, John Crossley won the No.4 singles match 6-2, 6-4. Paul Ditomasso won the No.6 singles match 6-2, 7-5

The Rock's next match is Saturday against West Chester. "Our goal is simply to win," said Meredith. "If we win we go to PSAC Championships which is our goal and has been our goal since the beginning of the year. If we don't win, then three teams will boast the same record, and then it is out of our hands.

"There are pluses in there and there is a good chance to do well at individual championships."
