The Slippery Rock women's tennis team lost this past week, while the men's team picked up its fourth victory.

On the women's side, the Rock lost to IUP, 6-3 on Tuesday. Ashley Michaux was part of two of the three Rock victories, defeating No. 38-ranked Yvonne Niederbracht of IUP, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5. She also won in doubles action, teaming with Kate Ingram to defeat Kim Jones and Niederbracht, 8-6. The other Rock victory came in the No. 4 singles match when Erika McKenna defeated Mary Pierandozzi, 7-6 (12-10), 2-6, 10-8.

In the No. 2 singles match, Ashley Greene lost to Hilary Hughes, 6-0, 6-4. In the No.3 singles match, Ingram lost to Aurora Ellenbach, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. In the No. 5 singles match, Heather Webb lost to Jones, 6-0, 6-2 and at the No. 6 singles spot, Jaime Lemoncelli lost to Laura Henderson, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, Pierandozzi and Ellerbach defeated Greene and McKenna of SRU, 9-7. At the No. 3 doubles spot, Hilary Hughes and Laura Henderson of IUP beat Webb and Lemoncelli, 8-1.

The men's team traveled to Penn State Behrend Wednesday where it came away with a 7-2 victory.

The win brings the Rock's record to 4-7 on the season.

The Rock won two of the three doubles matches. Adam Shosky and Paul DiTomasso won the No. 2 doubles match 8-4. Zack Thomas and John Crossley won the No. 3 doubles match with a score of 8-2.

In the singles matches the Rock was successful, winning five of the six matches. Ryan Steeh won the No. 1 singles match in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Rich Moore won the No. 2 singles match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Zack Thomas won his No. 3 singles match in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. John Crossley won the No. 4 singles match 6-7, 7-5, 6-0. Adam Shosky won the No. 5 singles match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

"The men's team is playing well; our goal is to make it to PSAC playoffs," Coach Matt Meredith said. "The team is working hard; they are on the same page and everyone is helping each other out."

This was the Rock's first match since March 18 because the weather has cancelled or postponed the Rock's last four matches.

"The time we've had has been used to play on the outdoor courts," Meredith said. "This week of preparation helped us out this week."
