SGA Parliamentarian Ryan Podlucky (RIGHT) congratulates SGA President-Elect Julie Hepner during the announcement of her victory on Thursday afternoon, as members of her executive board look on.

Julie Hepner and her party, the Golden Ticket, were elected to SGA positions for the 2005-06 academic year Thursday.

Hepner, a current R.O.C.K. Apartments senator in SGA, ran for president in her second year as an SGA member.

The Golden Ticket party, which ran unopposed for this year's election, is made up of students representing all grades and members of SGA.

Of the 373 total votes cast, the Golden Ticket Party received 299 straight ticket votes. A straight ticket vote is one vote for the party as whole and not separate votes for individual positions.

Michael Muha received 25 votes as a write-in for president, more than any of the other write-ins.

The party's main goal for its term is to be a voice for students and advocate for the students' needs, Hepner said.

Hepner said SGA's focus next year will be ensuring that campus construction doesn't hinder students.

Hepner said one of the projects being worked on is a proposal for new student union or possible renovation to the current one.

Although Golden Ticket was the only party running for office, its members have been planning since October, Hepner said. She is also relieved that the election announcements are over.

Hepner and the rest of her party are looking forward to next year and making Slippery Rock a good place for everyone to be.

"I am very proud and honored to represent SRU and all the students," she said.

The members of the Golden Ticket Party will be sworn on April 28, the last SGA senate meeting of the year.
