After a 1-2 record on a Washington, D.C., road trip, the Slippery Rock softball team hasn't played a game since March 19 due to rain and unplayable field conditions.

The Rock was set to play Juniata last Wednesday, but that game was canceled just like the two games against Clarion and Lock Haven earlier this week due to unplayable field conditions.

Two weekends ago, the Rock traveled to Washington, D.C., to play two games against Howard and one game against Columbia Union.

The Rock lost 5-1 to Howard in game one of the double header. The Rock had more errors, (4) than hits, (3), in the game.

In the losing effort, sophomore pitcher Courtney Conron pitched six innings and allowed five runs on five hits. Only two of the runs were earned for Howard. Conron struck out seven batters and walked no one in the game.

Senior Kate Krochmal's solo homerun in the top of the fourth was the only run that the Rock would produce in the game.

In the second game of the double header, the Rock could not rebound as Howard won in a high-scoring affair, 15-7.

The Rock committed four errors once again as Howard capitalized on the mistakes to beat the Rock in five innings.

Freshman stand-out pitcher Brittany Hahn had her worst pitching performance of the season as she only pitched three and one-third innings and allowed 14 runs on 13 hits. Only two of the runs were earned. Hahn now owns a 5-1 record on the season with a 2.03 ERA.

Freshman Kalee LoFaso pitched the remainder of the game and allowed one run on three hits.

Howard scored 10 runs in the first inning to put the game out of reach and then scored one run in the second inning, three runs in the fourth inning and one more run in the fifth and final inning of the game.

Senior Jesse Gump and freshman Stacey Rhoades each had a home run and drove in two runs in the game. Sophomore Kelly Wolfe went 2 for 3 with a run scored for SRU.

The Rock hammered 11 hits in a 12-1 victory over Columbia Union the next day in Washington, D.C. Five out of the 11 hits were extra base hits.
