Tennis takes two of five in South Carolina

The SRU men's tennis team finished its trip to Hilton Head, S.C., with a record of 2-3.
The team started the trip with an 8-1 win over Greensboro College. All three doubles teams won their respective matches. In the first match, Ryan Steeh and Keith Kopelcheck won their match 8-0. In the second match, Rich Moore and Adam Shosky won their match 8-5. In the third match, the pair of Zack Thomas and John Crossley won their match 8-2.
In the singles matches, the Rock won all except the first match to seal the win for SRU. Rich Moore won his match 6-1, 6-3; Keith Kopelcheck won his match 6-3, 6-2; Zack Thomas won his match 6-1, 6-0; Adam Shosky won his match 6-0, 6-0; and John Crossley won his match 6-0, 6-4.
In the second match of the trip, the SRU tennis team lost 8-1 to Kutztown. The only points came from the doubles pair of John Crossley and Alexander Shabalkinm who won their doubles match 8-4. In the singles matches, the team lost in straight sets in all the matches.
The Rock lost 9-0 against Rhodes College. Keith Kopelcheck lost in the third set during his singles match, 7-6, 5-7, 6-3.
In the fourth match of the trip, the tennis team lost to Wilkes College 5-4. Zack Thomas led the Rock's effort with wins in his doubles and singles matches. Thomas paired up with John Crosley to get the only doubles win for SRU by 8-4. The team won three singles matches in the losing effort. Kopelcheck won his match 6-2, 6-0; Thomas won his match 6-3, 4-6, 6-0; and Crossley won his match 6-0, 6-0.
In the fifth and final match of the trip, the Rock defeated East Stroudsburg 5-4. With this win, the team kept its PSAC chances alive. The team also surpassed the win total from last year with the victory.
"(This was) the best win he's ever had," coach Matt Meredith said.

Kopelcheck won his match 6-4, 2-6, 6-3; Shosky won his matches 6-4, 6-1; and Crossley won his matches 6-4, 6-3.
The Rock now has a 3-4 record on the spring season. They will face Millersville tonight at 6 p.m.
