Slippery Rock University Student Government Association Vice President of Student Life Kami Yurisinec said yesterday that a meeting will be held March 22 with local businesses to discuss discounts for SRU students with an ID card.
Yurisinec said no details have been put into place yet regarding the discounts, but she is confident the businesses will work with SGA.
"We still don't know for sure how much of a discount the local businesses will give us, but anything is better than nothing," Yurisinec said.
Yurisinec and the rest of SGA are now getting to the student discount issue, which was on their platform of things they wanted to accomplish last year during the electoral race.
In other SGA news:
President Jude Butch said he is close to having final numbers figured out regarding a new intramural complex at SRU. He said he will be working with Greg Sferra, director of campus recreation, to get the logistics of the complex established soon.
"The progress we're making on the intramural complex is awesome," Butch said. "Hopefully we'll see it start to take form soon."
Richard Graham was voted in as the new Rhoads Hall Senator and Haley Zanella was chosen to be the new Board of Cooperative Activities Senator. The Board of Cooperative Activities is the group that allocates funds to each club and organization on campus.
Student Trustee Angele Waugaman said the chemical health task force has been established and will continue to work towards changing the current alcohol policies at SRU.
The University Union Task Force is currently evaluating a list of 18-20 bids made by architects to see who will run the union's feasibility study, according to SRU Vice President for Student Life Robert Watson.
Of these 18-20 proposals, five will be chosen to give presentations at SRU. Watson said this process will include much student to architect communication.
"The importance of student input during this process is very high," Watson said. "The students ultimately are paying for this, so we need to be sure that this structure is exactly what they're looking for."
The University Union Task Force will examine Clarion University's union on March 14. Clarion was chosen due to its similarities to SRU regarding size and attendance.
