For the second time this season, the men's and women's track teams ventured out to Lewisburg for the Bucknell Invitational.
The Rock was one of 30 teams at the event, which was contested over two days last weekend. The men's team was led by impressive individual performances by jumpers Preston Gibbs and Seth Little. Gibbs turned in a season best in the triple jump and long jump, which was enough to give him two first place finishes.
"He was our top performer," assistant coach Jeff Magley said. "He faced some tough competition and got two nice wins."
Gibbs appears to be the jumper to beat in the PSAC, as his triple and long jump on Saturday gave him the best mark in the conference. Little finished closely behind Gibbs for second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.
"Our jumpers just had a great day," Magley said. "They turned in really strong performances."
Kurt Thompson also captured a first place for the Rock. Thompson soundly defeated the field in the pole vault with a height of 15 feet 9 inches.
"Kurt is having a great season," Magley said. "He beat some good vaulters and it's going to be tough for anyone to beat him."
Thompson's vault placed him at the top of the PSAC, a spot that he held for much of last year and looks to hold in the PSAC Indoor Championships later in the season.
For the women, the Rock was led by its pole-vaulters Katie Jones and Abby McKissick, who finished second and third overall. Both Jones and McKissick set personal bests in height with 10 feet 6 inches. Magley was pleased with their performances
"The pole vault is definitely our event, we have a great one-two combination," Magley said.
Kristen Jones and Heather Kozuchowsky each earned third place at Bucknell. Jones' jump of 18 feet was good enough for third place in the long jump.
"Kristen has been a good consistent jumper all year," Magley said. "She's just improving with every meet."
Kozuchowsky set her own personal best in the shotput, which earned her a trip to the National Indoor Championships.
"We faced a lot of good schools and I'm extremely happy with how we did out there," Magley said.
Magley was pleased at how the Rock stacked up against its PSAC rivals.
"There were a lot of PSAC teams there and we were just as good as they were," he said. "We really showed that we stack up well against the competition."
