Library security becomes concern for some workers

The library may be a quiet place, but questions about security have raised an alarm with staff in recent weeks.

Several library workers at the Bailey Library have become concerned with the fact that when the only employed security guard isn't available for work, the students are required to handle all situations and to lock up at night.

Faculty to remain voting members

The motion to change faculty members on the Cooperative Activities Board, from voting members to non-voting members, failed at the Student Government Association meeting held yesterday during common hour, meaning faculty members on the Co-Op board will retain their right to vote.

Having a rolling campus filled with hills and valleys can make for beautiful sight, but it can also cause headaches, especially for those with physical disabilities.

In order to combat those headaches, Slippery Rock University is continuing to look for ways in which they can improve accessibility for students and visitors with disabilities.

Baseball falters at PSAC Championships, finishes 25-23 on year

The Slippery Rock baseball team crammed a lot of action into a short period this past week, playing six games in three days to finish out the regular season.

It looked a little like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at first, but the team won when they had to and worked its way into the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs.

Green nips white 7-3 in spring game

Even though the college football season is still months away, Slippery Rock took the gridiron last Friday for the annual Green and White game.

The Green team managed to pull out a narrow 7-3 victory on a late fourth quarter touchdown pass.

The White team had led the entire game, but lost thanks in part to a series of missed scoring opportunities.

This year's National Football League Draft in New York City came with typical aplomb.

Based on a limited survey of fans I conducted while attending the draft personally, I have come to the conclusion that nearly every team in the NFL did well, except for the New England Patriots or the Dallas Cowboys, for whom results were inconclusive, and for the New York Jets, who benefited from a biased home-field advantage.

When associate professor of exercise and rehabilitative sciences, Kimberly Smith, first attended the Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine as a sophomore undergraduate at Slippery Rock University, she was unaware of where the conference would take her.

As the age-old glass-half-full saying goes, students can either see this coming week as a hectic plethora of final exams, or a countdown until summer vacation.

Considering the abundance of shorts and flip-flops, Frisbee in front of residence halls and even an occasional water balloon fight in the quad, it's obvious that many students are choosing the latter and counting down the days until summer.

Alumna awarded for post-graduation work, service

A 1985 alumna was chosen to receive the Distinguished International Alumni Award for 2008 by the SRU Alumni Association.

Seeme Baqai Moreira was born and raised in Pakistan and graduated summa cum laude from SRU with a bachelor's degree in accounting. She currently works as a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage.

Comedy film fails to think outside box

"Baby Mama" "Baby Mama" is a mediocre comedy. It's well-intentioned and mildly amusing but nothing more. The movie begins with Kate Holbrook, played by Tina Fey ("Mean Girls," TV's "30 Rock"), talking about her desire to have a baby. She is 37 and unmarried, adoption is not an easy process, and she finds out that her chances of conception are extremely low.
